Superficial Music Post

This post is about music. Specifically, music I actually like. The amount of music I don’t like is incredibly slim, though there is such a thing as too graphic to me. I know. Novel concept, huh? So keep that in mind with this post.

The music I tend to gravitate towards the most is indie, feel good music or acoustic artists with a gripping tune and nice lyrics. This kind of music is some of the only music that I can say wasn’t influenced by anyone in my life, kind of making it something I identify with. Examples of bands that I thoroughly enjoy from these kinds of music is Bastille, Mumford and Sons (Pictured to the left), Imagine Dragons, Of Monsters and Men, Jack Johnson, GroupLove, and Vampire Weekend. Some of the most inspirational and calming tools I have come from these artists.

Also, music from when I was growing up is incredibly important to me. It’s what helps me stay connected with the people that I haven’t thought of in years. Music from these times consist of The Beastie Boys, System Of A Down, Reel Big Fish (Pictured to the left), Bon Jovi, Dio, Linkin Park and Blink-182, among others. The times where Josh Boyd, Chad Stam, and I would longboard all over Lagoon and listen to Reel Big Fish in the parking lot, Skanking and dancing our little hearts out. Hours of hanging around the employee parking lot at night were spent this way. The times where me and my cousin, Jake, would drive home in his beat up Chevy Malibu rocking out to Dio’s Rainbow in the Dark with the volume all the way up. We narrowly evaded more than one wreck in the process. The times where me and my brothers would hide from the hot Utah summers inside listening to Linkin Park or Blink-182. There are many boxes of cereal gone and hours of watching Discovery Channel documentaries in the same way. Many hundreds and thousands of experiences can be linked to music from my past.

There is also music that I associate with work, more than anything. For instance, my huge crush on the beautiful latin bombshell, Shakira, are from hours of listening to her music and other music like hers in kitchens cooking with Mexicans. In fact, one of my favorite songs is “Addicted to you” by Shakira (See how pretty she is?)
. For some reason, I thoroughly enjoy latin music due to hours of standing in the same place cutting vegetables, fruits, or meats and having no other choice but to enjoy it. Also, I rarely listen to country music in my down time since I have spent day after day in South East Alaska listening to Brad Paisley, Zac Brown Band, Blake Shelton, or any other country artist I could get my hands on.

Some of the music I’ve loved lately for one reason or another is certain types of rap, pop, and R&B. Mayer Hawthorne and Brett Dennen are two that I’ve particularly been binging on lately. Brett Dennen (Pictured on the left) is an incredibly tall, technical, red-headed down-to-earth artist. Definitely not for everyone but one artist that I think is incredibly under-rated. Also, Justin Timberlake’s Mirrors is, in my opinion, one of the best songs from last year. I usually can’t stand Bruno Mars but his song “Treasures” is one of my favorites. I also really enjoy Lupe Fiasco or Kid Cudi, and have for many years now.

There is also many more that I actually enjoy. I could spend hours writing this stuff but for the sake of your sanity, I’ll go with the few I mentioned above. I’m also up for suggestions for new music. Especially acoustic or indie stuff. Write in the comments below if you find any for me 🙂
